Synopsis

A group of 15 elite high school students are gathered at a very special, high class high school. To graduate from this high school essentially means you'll succeed in life, but graduating is very difficult. The school is presided over by a bear called Monokuma, and he explains to them that their graduation hinges around committing a murder. The only way to graduate is to kill one of your classmates and get away with it. If the other classmates discover the identity of the killer, the killer is the only one executed. However, if they fail to catch the killer, only the killer graduates and the others are annihilated. Which of the 15 will survive the bloodbath to come?

My say: I'm only on episode 4, but let me just say that this anime does stand out a little. See, it's pretty messed up scenarios. There really isn't a win-win for everyone. Someone is going to die, probably each and every episode. Don't get attached to anyone. But the thing that stands out is how the punishment scenes are done. The animation changes into a weird 3-D version with weird pop-ups and stuff that are made to remind you of something like a carnival or something, with signs and blinking lights and all. Some of the animation makes you think you might be on a hardcore acid trip or something. But you just want to keep watching because the mystery and craziness makes you wonder.

UPDATE:
I finished this in a rush today. I REALLY wanted to know what happened. It got really, really interesting in the middle of the series. It was cool to see how well it played out, though I do believe that it needed a more solid ending. A lot of people felt that it did not conclude well. However, the whole show is about finding hope in despair. It gets its message across.
